M.Shadows was born July 31, 1981 in Huntington Beach his real name is Matthew Charles Sanders, he's the lead vocal and a former member of Avenged Sevenfold.

 M.shadows start singing at his early age and he was kind a "classical guy" cause he was playing the piano and sing classic music, as he became older he began to have interst in Rock music as the punk scene was big at that time. He attended Robert J. Frank, where he played for a brief stint in a punk band named "Successful Failure", and after this experience M.shadows formed Avenged Sevenfold in 1999 along with middle school friends Zacky Vengeance, The Rev and Joshua Hernandez.

 M.shadows's stage name was a choice he made because he didn't like the sound of his real name Matthew so he replaced it with M and add Shadows because he thought of himself as "the darker character in the group".

M.Shadows was heavily influenced by Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne, Guitarist Scott Taylor, and Pantera. But he cites Guns N' Roses as his biggest influence (during an interview), commenting that "I love that band. You can compare us all you want — they're a huge reason why I'm even in a band and even write music"

In 2011 Matthew won the Golden God Awards: Best Vocalist for his vocals on Nightmare album.
